Preshil is a small, secular and progressive co-educational independent school for ages 3 and 4 through to Year 12. Students take an active role in their education and develop responsibility for their actions; they are encouraged to ask challenging questions, to know themselves, care for others and achieve excellence on their own terms.

Preshil is an authorized International Baccalaureate World School with a Diploma Programme (DP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Primary Years Programme (PYP).  The school uses a restorative approach to discipline and is looking for outstanding teachers with high levels of leadership experience and capacity.

The school’s website is a valuable source of information in coming to an understanding of Preshil. The school philosophy is inspired by the work of Margaret J R Lyttle and builds continually on her work and the work of her niece, Margaret E Lyttle and the ideas of other educational theorists relevant to progressive education in 21st century Australia. We acknowledge the valuable role that teachers play in the lives of children. We are seeking vibrant, passionate and experienced educators to join our team working to create outstanding programs for every student

Current vacancies are available below.

Preshil is a coeducational, secular and private school in Melbourne, welcoming children from kindergarten through to the completion of their secondary schooling. Founded in 1931, it is Australia’s oldest progressive school, and is  truly contemporary and globally-minded. The Preshil approach is defined by a relationship between teachers and students that engages children’s intrinsic desire to learn, and does not use the fear of failure or the threat of punishment to motivate children. The rapport between students and their teachers is relaxed, respectful, reciprocal and focused on achieving a life-long love for learning.

As an International Baccalaureate (IB) Continuum School, Preshil’s accredited IB Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes align with the School’s focus on intellectual challenge, inquiry and research-based learning. These programmes accommodate individual choice and independent learning, and encourage students to develop the “courage to question”.

A rare opportunity now exists for an experienced leader with a commitment to progressive education, to join this extraordinary school community as Preshil’s next Principal. The successful applicant will be an approachable and empathetic individual, highly visible across the School, and possessing a warmth and gravitas to inspire students and staff, and engage the broader School community. They will drive strong stakeholder engagement, serving as the standard-bearer of the School’s identity and values within the public sphere, and will welcome the challenge of providing educational and administrative leadership within a context in which student and teacher agency is highly valued.
