WELCOME TO PRESHIL
We hope this website offers you the opportunity to learn a little about this highly regarded and much loved school.
The Preshil community takes great pride in its eighty-year history of leadership in progressive schooling. During that time Preshil has placed respect for the individual child at the heart of its practice. Its curriculum remains genuinely child centred, with an ongoing commitment to nurture the creativity and individuality of each student, from the Nursery School to the senior years of VCE. At a time when educationists are hailing personalised learning as the way forward for schools in the 21st century Preshil continues to reaffirm and cultivate this philosophy, which is now widely recognised as being at the forefront of educational thinking.
At the Arlington Junior School learning through play is fostered in a unique environment of buildings and natural garden spaces designed by Kevin Borland and created to actively build on the natural inclination of children to explore and wonder.
Social awareness, compassion and community are specifically developed across both campuses, through the regular group meetings and whole school forums, where children learn to listen to others, to speak confidently and to value different views.
At the Blackhall/Kalimna Senior School each student has an active role in constructing a program which suits their interests and aspirations. Preshil stands firmly against regimentation or uniformity and we offer a deliberately different approach to the VCE. Respect and appreciation of individual difference is a key characteristic of the senior school and this quality characterises the relationships between students and teachers.
At Preshil social justice, and the courage to take action to achieve it, are daily observable aspects of the school and our alumni willingly acknowledge the role the school has played in shaping their values in adult life.
As the new Principal I am very proud to be a part of this school’s rich culture and warmly welcome you to find out more.
