Movie Time

Preshil Media and Filmmaking Geniuses support staff.
Around 100 of the Preshil community turned out for this year’s showing [Jennifer wrote] on October 21 of the films made in Media class by our VCE (Year 11 & 12) students. Most of the filmmakers were in attendance, along with the cast and crew from their productions. Many parents and families also came to see the final results of all the hard work their sons and daughters had put in to realise their vision onto the big screen, many of whom have been attending PIFF nights for many years. It was also great to see many younger students there to support and be inspired by the work of their senior peers.
On exhibition were four Year 11 films, and seven Year 12 productions. Year 11 work by Chris B, Andrew P, Amorette G-W and Matt O showcased these filmmakers’ real skills as narrative story-tellers in video. Year 12 films by Alex W, Meg A, John T, Hamish S, David S, Hannah O and Jack B (a Year 11 student in the Year 12 class) were varied in style and content and demonstrated excellent rewards for a lot of hard work put in by these students.
The films had been pre-judged by a group of 20 or so Years 7-11 students at school in the categories of Best Film, Actor, Supporting Actor, Post-Production, Film Skills and Story Idea, which were awarded at the end of the screening. The audience was warmly appreciative of the work and genuinely entertained, and voted Alex W’s piece “A Film made by Alex Whitehead” as the winner of the coveted Audience Choice award.
The event was hosted by Year 12s David S and Hamish S, two students who have been strong supporters of the PIFF events over their time here at the school. Thanks to them, and all the other students who have been great PIFF followers over the eight years we have been running this event. We look forward to seeing many of the Preshil community at Arlington on Wednesday December 2 from 7.30 to 9.30pm for the PIFF Junior ‘09 night, showing films made by year 7-10 students in Media this year.
