We are over joyed to welcome Lazare Agneskis to Preshil. In his short time at Preshil Lazare has already ignited excitement and passion for music. Lazare is teaching at both Blackhall and Arlington this year, so please make him feel welcome. To read more about Lazare check out his biography below.

With over 10 years of professional performing and recording experience, Lazare Agneskis is one of Australia’s most exciting and diverse drummers and musicians. Lazare has also composed and produced music for many years and has been teaching instruments for 10 years.

Starting his career as a funk rock drummer Lazare was first exposed to wide audiences performing at the Falls Festival on two occasions with Aria award winner Dan Sultan and recording on the debut album Homemade Biscuits. Other early career highlights include performing with Dan Kelly and Australian Hip-Hop sensation Diafrix.

Over the years Lazare has performed in many bands ranging in styles including: Jazz, Blues, Rock’n’Roll, Funk, Reggae and Latin.

In 2002 after playing in various Latin bands Lazare formed the Afro-Cuban San Lazaro. As a leading songwriter of one of Australia’s best original Latin funk fusion bands, Lazare performed at many prestigious festivals touring Australia including: Woodford, Bluesfest, Melbourne International Jazz Festival and WOMADelaide. San Lazaro performed on ABC TV music show Spicks and Specks and Channel Seven’s Sunrise, and receives airplay on JJJ and PBS radio.

From 2008 to 2011 Lazare performed nationally with original funk soul band Pablo Discobar. In 2012 Lazare joined The Groovetones, one of Melbourne’s premier 1950s Rock’n’Roll bands.

Having completed a Bachelor of Music Performance (Honours) degree at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2011 is further testament to Lazare’s credentials.

As a qualified Music teacher Lazare has been teaching in schools since 2008 and enjoys the role of mentor and passing knowledge onto the next generation of musicians.

Please note that Open Stage will now be on MONDAYS at 8.45am in front of the Kevin Borland Hall. All are welcome to come and perform on this friendly and low key stage.

A 2015 parent handbook has been created by our fabulous communications department and is available from both the Arlington and Blackhall offices. Please collect one for all information regarding Instrumental Music at Preshil.
